Organic farming is considered to be a particularly resource-conserving and environmentally friendly form of farming. This assessment is based on numerous research studies that have been carried out over the last thirty years. At the same time, however, there are still many unanswered questions and critical viewpoints regarding the benefits that organic farming provides for the environment and society in comparison to conventional agriculture.
Against this background, an interdisciplinary research team has prepared a structured review of the current state of knowledge on this topic and compared and evaluated the results of relevant scientific studies.
One of the aims was to carry out a differentiated stocktaking and make a well-founded contribution to the discussion on the importance of organic farming with regard to solving the environmental and resource policy challenges facing agriculture.
